Sofiia Matsevko

My name is Sofiia. I am a dancer, dance teacher and choreographer from Ukraine. I’m dancing for more than 15 years. I studied at Dance Center Myway and was a part of “A.M.prjct” and “DeeRECting project”. I’m the finalist of “I Am Choreographer 2019” and winner of “Dance Monsters Championship” 2021.

Now I work in Vienna in such studios: Empire Dance Studio, Anima Fabrik, TanzQuartier, Vienna Dance Center.

In my choreographies I pay a lot of attention to musicality and body control. It’s important to be respectful to the movements, make them visible and understandable for the body and for the audience.

Flow like Water class: During the class we will focus on the relation between the body, space, and floor. We will improvise solo with certain tasks in order to find characteristic movement qualities, the connection between limbs and the spine and organic articulation. We will learn technical movements and sequences in standing and using the ground. When learning movements we will focus on finding a balance between effort and release in order to do them in a smooth and effortless way. For that we will engage the centre of the body and use natural momentum.
